A 49-year-old Oamaru man is going to jail for exporting, distributing and possessing child sexual abuse publications

John Ritchie Hellewell was sentenced to four years imprisonment in the Dunedin District Court today.

He was arrested by Customs investigators during a search warrant at his home last November, following a referral from the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.

Hellewell was distributing abuse imagery to overseas users, and operating as an administrator for at least two trading groups.

He'd previously been arrested and charged for similar offending in 2016.
