Under Parliamentary Privilege Speaker Trevor Mallard said a worker - whom he has previously apologised for wrongly accusing him of rape - did commit sexual assault.
Jacinda Ardern says the debate's tone didn't reflect well on Parliament as a whole and was poorly managed and politicised.
She says any claims of sexual assault should be investigated with a victim-centric approach.
The Prime Minister has written to the Speaker and Deputy and Assistant Speakers requesting a group to steer MPs dealings with sensitive matters such as sexual assault.
