The Social Development Ministry's being urged to crack down on misuse of the Wage Subsidy Scheme

The Social Development Ministry's being urged to crack down on misuse of the Wage Subsidy Scheme

An Auditor-General report's found the scheme was mostly well-managed - but needs more checks to verify eligibility.

Audits on companies have mostly consisted of verbal confirmation, rather than a document review.

Just over 14-billion dollars has been paid out through the scheme - with about 703-million dollars voluntarily repaid at March 5.

Another 25-million dollars has been "compulsorily recovered".
