New Zealand's population is estimated to have surpassed 5.1-million people

Stats NZ estimates the resident population by March 31 to be up 33-thousand-300 people - or 0.65 per cent - year-on-year.

It is a smaller increase than the year before ... with numbers growing by 2.37 percent by March last year.
