Black ice on a South Island highway is making driving hazardous between Tarras and Twizel

Severe frosts have followed below-minus-eight degree temperatures this morning in the high country towns of Fairlie, Omarama and Lake Tekapo.
Waka Kotahi's Tresca Forrester says crews will be putting grit on Canterbury and Otago roads.
She says drivers need to look out for black ice on shaded roads and near bridges.
Forrester says they should also be wary of the low winter sun.
