Campbell Page pleaded guilty in the Christchurch District Court today to a charge of careless driving causing death, after the crash last year in Macetown, near Arrowtown.
Olivia Brown died when the vehicle left a remote four wheel drive track and crashed 50 metres down a steep bank.
Page suffered moderate injuries.
The court heard that the 24-year-old advised Brown that seatbelts shouldn't be worn because the track was bumpy.
The Christchurch landscape gardener will be sentenced on September 8.
