The owner of a historic North Canterbury pub that's burned to the ground says they don't have the money to clear the site

Fire crews battled to save the 110-year-old Waiau Lodge Hotel on Saturday night - which police are now treating as suspicious.

Co-owner Michelle Beri says they've gone to the Hurunui District Council and are waiting to to see if it can assist.

She says they can't do it by themselves.

The council says it will support Beri.
