In 2002, lawyer Grant Cameron handed Police 34 statements about alleged abuse at the Manawatu-based child and adolescent unit during the 1970s.
But Detective Superintendent Thomas Fitzgerald admitted yesterday to the Abuse in Care inquiry, that former investigators only had 20 statements in 2005.
Fitzgerald says a 2018 review of the 20 documents revealed 11 allegations of sexual and physical assaults.
He says none of these was entered in the Police document locator at the time ... resulting in some not being saved and lost entirely.
Thomas Fitzgerald is leading the current Police investigation - not the one where statements were lost.
