A strong wind watch is in force for many places south of Napier.
More rain is on the way for the lower North Island, where surface flooding is affecting some water supplies and blocking some roads -- including State Highway 56 south of Palmerston North.
MetService Lead Meteorologist Bill Singh says snow could get heavy in parts of Fiordland, Southland and Otago, and could reach 300 metres in Canterbury.
Some places in Southland and Otago could get down to negative 10 degrees -- colder than the North Pole.
