A prediction New Zealand will become a debt basket case comparable to Greece, in 40 years time

Treasury has released a draft analysis of the Government's long-term finances.

It's predicting public debt will rise to more than two-point-five TRILLION dollars by 2061, or 177 percent of the economy.

That's about the same burden Greece was carrying during the debt crisis of 2015.

Treasury's recommending raising the superannuation age and pegging payments to inflation, rather than wages.

It also suggests leaving tax brackets where they are as incomes increase, or adding new taxes such as a capital gains tax.
