A call for better enforcement of our road rules
A call for better enforcement of our road rules

The number of fines Police have fined motorists for failing to wear a seatbelt has almost halved in the past decade -- according to new stats released to ZB.
The number of deaths, serious injuries and crashes where a driver or passenger wasn't wearing one has either stayed stable or increased -- in the same period.
Brake road safety campaigner Caroline Perry says our penalties aren't as much of a deterrent as they could be.
She says it's a 150 dollar fine and no demerit points, whereas in the UK it's up to one thousand New Zealand dollars.
