Supermarket spending surged last month
12 July 2021
Stats New Zealand reports card spending was up 0.9 per cent in June, driven by consumable goods.
Grocery, alcohol, and specialised food spending was up 41-million dollars - or 1.8 per cent - compared with May.
It's the largest growth in any core retail industries last month.
Business statistics manager Ricky Ho says wild weather at the start and end of the month may have driven people to stock up and stay in.
