The 25-year-old rower will make his Olympic debut this morning in the men's singles sculls, with his first heat at 11.40.
Parry beat three time Olympic medallist Mahe Drysdale for the spot in the boat.
Rowing New Zealand high performance general manager Judith Hamilton says the extra year to prepare has suited Parry.
Emma Twigg's fourth Olympic campaign also begins today, with her first heat in the women's single sculls at 20 past one this afternoon.
The men's and women double sculls and women's quad also kick start their campaigns this afternoon.
