The New Zealand Herald reports the All Blacks will play the USA in a revenue-boosting test on October 23, at the start of the end of year tour.
The match, due to be announced early next week, could generate around two to three million dollars worth of profit for New Zealand Rugby.
NZ Rugby originally planned to stage a test in Las Vegas, but the date clashed with a home fixture for the Raiders NFL team.
Washington's 82,000 capacity FedEx Field has since emerged as the new host venue.
The match comes as NZR officials scramble to stage the Bledisloe Cup series next month - with the trans-Tasman bubble suspended from midnight.
The government says it will consider an application to allow the Wallabies to travel during the seven-day grace period.
