A slip has closed State Highway 60 on Takaka Hill - after heavy rain in the upper South Island

About 10 roads in the Tasman district were closed or down to one lane at one stage, from fallen trees, flooding and mudslides.
The severe weather watch for parts of the region is expected to remain in place until 7 tonight.
Waka Kotahi says contractors are working to clear the highway, hopefully this evening, but drivers should expect delays as there's no detour.
The Tasman District Council says residents should boil water - as water systems are under pressure.
