Isolated locals are walking, biking and boating to get to work, as major slips prevent vehicle access into Marlborough Sounds

Isolated locals are walking, biking and boating to get to work, as major slips prevent vehicle access into Marlborough Sounds

It will be months before repairs are made to damaged sections on Queen Charlotte Drive between Picton and Linkwater - with 17 slips alone on Kenepuru Road.

Recovery Manager Dean Heiford says some locals drive all the way to Picton - just to get to work in Havelock.

He says one man parks his ute at a slip and pushes his mountain bike over it to bike home.

Heiford says they haven't even got to some slips yet.
