There have been two large house fires in the lower North Island overnight
12 August 2021
The first one broke out just before 1am in Gisborne and the second just over an hour later in Upper Hutt.
Both blazes were well alight when crews arrived but have now been extinguished.
There's a scene guard at Gisborne and a standby crew at Upper Hutt checking for hotspots.
Fire and Emergency shift manager Belinda Beets says investigators will be going to both properties this morning to figure out what caused the fires.
She says no one was inside during the Gisborne blaze but she's not sure about the one in Upper Hutt yet.
