Great news for a threatened New Zealand native duck - the whio

The bird also known as the blue duck, has almost tripled its population in the past decade.
There are now just under 3000 birds - including 863 breeding pairs - living in eight protected sites across the country.
DOC Director General Lou Sanson says their goal is to have more than 5000 birds.
