Beanie Feldstein "almost flashed the entire world" at the Academy Awards

The 28-year-old actress has opened up on the moment she suffered a very embarrassing wardrobe malfunction seconds before she stepped out to introduce presenter Mindy Kaling at the 2020 Oscars.

She told W Magazine: "I was wearing a stunning dress that had a halter clasp at the neck... The gown had boning and a sort of shelf for the bust, but there was no bra involved.

"I'm all about representation, and I'm here to represent big, low-hanging Jewish breasts. The halter on the dress was struggling. It was hanging on for dear life.

"There was a countdown clock backstage, and there was a minute and 20 seconds left before I had to go on in front of an audience of millions.

"Next to me was the wall of Oscar statues that they were about to hand out to incredible people. I was nervous and accidentally stepped on the front hem of my dress, and with that step, the clasp gave way."

The 'Booksmart' star revealed how there were less than 30 seconds until she was due on stage, but someone jumped in to help and saved her from any further embarrassment.

She added: "At that point, there was 18 seconds to go.

"Luckily, someone backstage had a safety pin and reclasped me, but I almost flashed the entire world that night...The moral of this story is, I'm a busty, low-hanging Jewish girl, and you have to be who you are. Which means no more halters."

Now, Beanie is set to play Fanny Brice in the first-ever Broadway revival of 1964 production 'Funny Girl', which she described as a "dream come true".

She said in a statement: "The first time I played Fanny Brice was at my third birthday party, in a head-to-toe leopard print outfit my mom made for me.

"So, it's safe to say that stepping into this iconic role, on Broadway and not in my family's backyard, is truly my lifelong dream come true. I am immensely grateful to be able to do so alongside such a remarkable creative team, and cannot wait for audiences to get back in theatres again!"

The musical - which is set before World War I and chronicles the real-life Ziegfeld Follies star and her rocky romance with gambler Nicky Arnstein - will be directed by Michael Mayer with a revised script written by Harvey Fierstein, and it will open next year.
