Six people were injured -- three critically -- after a stabbing attack by an Isis inspired lonewolf at New Lynn Countdown.
The man, who had been under constant surveillance, was shot dead by police who were monitoring him.
Police commissioner Andrew Coster says the IPCA and Coroner investigation will look into what's occurred.
He says officers are also in the process of compiling witness information and collecting CCTV footage of the attack.
Coster says anyone with photos or videos, or witnesses who haven't spoken to police yet, should call 105 and quote Operation Rally.
