The Waikato Level Three boundary has shifted further sought overnight to include the Waipa, Otorohanga and Waitomo Districts -- following another five cases in Waikato yesterday.
Experts say the boundary extension is needed, to limit the spread of the virus further south.
Police Association President Chris Cahill says officers will be doing spot checks on motorists, and will be out and about ensuring people comply with the rules.
He says it's not realistic to put up checkpoints across Waikato -- but police will be putting on more patrols and being more vigilant.
Auckland remains at Level Three with another 24 cases yesterday.
