Police discovered the body at a property in the suburb of Glenleith yesterday.
Friends and family of Amaria Whatuira, who hasn't been heard from since early August, were outside the property.
However, police won't release the victim's details until the person's formally identified.
The Otago Daily Times reports the 43-year-old has appeared at Dunedin District Court and has been given interim name suppression.
She's been remanded in custody until her next appearance on October 26.
