The 30-year-old fractured his clavicle in the race for bronze in the men's team pursuit.
He's had two surgeries on his collarbone since, and will don the silver fern as part of a small kiwi contingent at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Northern France next week.
Gate says the event is the first stepping stone for Paris 2024.
