Wellington Police are calling for information after a 16-year-old was brutally attacked in in Waitangi Park near the capital's waterfront

Two 16-year-olds were approached by a group of four men around 10.30 on Sunday night.

One of the men was holding a hammer...and demanded the victim hand over his belongings.

Despite doing so...the victim was struck in the face with the hammer...and kicked and punched by the group.

He was taken to hospital with bruising and a cut to the face.

The main offender's described as being in his late teens, wearing a black face mask and a blue hoodie.
