Dunedin Police were shot at with fireworks in the early hours of this morning - after young men playing with pyrotechnics caused a fire

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnisen told the Otago Daily Times a rubbish pile on Castle Street caught fire after the group aimed fireworks at it.

As Police spoke to the men ... another group of males shot fireworks at them then fled.

    They haven't yet been found.

Dinnisen's urged people to treat fireworks with respect and common sense.
