Plans to shut down Auckland's hard boundary will come just in time for Police

Auckland's border will reopen on December 15 -- allowing the roughly 300 officers staffing it, to move to other duties.
Travellers will need a vaccine certificate or proof of a Covid-19 test, and police will conduct spot checks to ensure compliance.
The Police Association says their resources have been stretched, with another 300 officers also helping out in MIQ facilities.
President Chris Cahill says shutting down checkpoints will make a big difference - as well as the reduced length of MIQ stays.
But he says they'll then have the Christmas/New Year rush - so there won't be much of a break.
