MetService has put a heavy rain warning over Fiordland North, expecting up to 400 millimetres of rain in some places.
Waka Kotahi says as Monday is Westland Anniversary Day -- more people will likely be travelling today and tomorrow.
The Transport Agency asks motorists to take extra care and check its traffic and travel map before heading out.
It says people should be ready for stormy weather across the Coast from South Westland north and on the alpine passes.
Waka Kotahi crews will be on hand to respond to slips and flooding.
