Greater Wellington's been battered by heavy downpours - causing flooding and slips, and isolating Kapiti's Maungakotukutuku Valley.
A MetService weather warning is in force for Wellington until 9pm - and until midnight for the Tararua Ranges, Horowhenua and Kapiti.
Kapiti emergency operations centre's, Paul Busing, says they're joined with the Red Cross to help people in need.
Busing says they've activated a welfare centre to look after anyone who can't get home tonight.
It's estimated 25 homes have been cut off in the Maungakotukutuku Valley.
