A major part of the South Island's State Highway 7 remains closed following a fatal crash around 3.30 this morning

A major part of the South Island's State Highway 7 remains closed following a fatal crash around 3.30 this morning

A driver of a truck and trailer, carrying fruit and vegetables, died after the vehicle crashed about 10 metres down a bank in the Lewis Pass.

The State Highway is closed between the Hanmer Springs turnoff and Springs Junction...with no detours available.

A Waka Kotahi spokesperson says they believe it's unlikely the road will reopen today.

They're encouraging motorists keep an eye on their Facebook page for further updates.
