Our medical schools are preparing for students to assist in hospitals, in the face of Omicron

Doctor unions and DHBs have been putting plans in place for potential workforce shortages.
That could include final year medical students being employed, and getting more responsibility.
Otago University says if students do become involved, unless mandated by the Government, any roles outside usual training will be on a voluntary basis.
Auckland University says they have detailed plans in place alongside DHBs and the Ministry of Health.
It says they recognise the increased burden the pandemic's placing on students and have been supporting them as best as they can.
