A magnitude 5.6 earthquake that's hit near Blenheim has rattled the upper South Island and lower North Island

Geonet says the quake struck 30-kilometres south-west of Seddon, at a depth of 30-kilometres, shortly after four-pm.

People on social media reported feeling it in Wellington, Nelson and Palmerston North.
