A symbolic mouri stone has been laid at Shelly Bay, signalling a change in the occupation of the site

Mau Whenua protesters have been there since November 2020, opposing the land being sold for a $500 million dollar development.

A ceremony's been attended by Taranaki Whanui Iwi leaders, Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust, Mau Whenua and tribal members.

A joint statement says Mau Whenua will "change focus" from the occupation but maintain their legal challenge on the legitimacy of the land sale.

Mau Whenua leader Dr Catherine Love says they're not giving up their fight but are excited by steps the Trust has taken to uphold their Kaupapa going forward.
