The win at Anfield dumped Everton into the relegation zone, leaving their neighbours' 68-year stay in England's top flight in doubt.
Defender Andrew Robertson opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, with forward Divock Origi scoring Liverpool's second in the 85th.
Manager Jurgen Klopp says although there was no score at half time, his side remained calm.
Leaders Manchester City are on 80 points with Liverpool on 79.
