A new Covid-19 sub-variant has shown up at our border

A new Covid-19 sub-variant has shown up at our border

The BA 4 variant of Omicron has been detected in a traveller from South Africa who arrived on April 22.

It's being monitored by the World Health Organisation but there's no evidence it's more transmissable or dangerous than other strains.

There are 5656 new Covid-19 community cases today and six related Covid-19 deaths.

These include deaths which happened over the previous three days

They were in the Northland, Taranaki, Waikato and Canterbury regions.
