Christchurch Hospital emergency staff are coping with violence more than ever before, and yet it's still being under reported

Christchurch Hospital emergency staff are coping with violence more than ever before, and yet it's still being under reported

New research in today's New Zealand Medical Journal looked at violence over a seven year period, to 2020.

The report says 100 per cent of staff have experienced abuse.

Emergency medicine specialist Dr John Bonning says increasing staffing numbers is one way to help.

He says busy and overcrowded emergency departments are a manifestation of problems across the system, and more staff on wards would mean quicker admissions beyond ED.
