ACC data shows an average of four people are injured on roads every hour over the Queen's Birthday weekend - at a yearly cost of almost $2 million

ACC data shows an average of four people are injured on roads every hour over the Queen's Birthday weekend - at a yearly cost of almost $2 million

Figures show an average almost 400 people lodged a road injury claim in the past five long weekends.

Transport Ministry figures show there were three deaths last Queen's Birthday..

It's close to home for injury prevention programme leader James Whitaker whose father was killed by a drunk driver before he was born.

But he says his story isn't unique - road related injuries and deaths have affected way too many people.

Road safety charity Brake urges drivers to check their vehicle's tyre tread depth, lights, oil and water levels and wiper blades and drive to winter conditions.
