Spending has had another unexpected gain, with a boost seen last month

After an April bounce, higher fuel and apparel spending and the normalisation of spending patterns to pre-Covid norms look to continue.
ASB Senior Economist Mark Smith says expectations remain for sharply-higher living costs and other factors to continue impacting households for the rest of the year.
He says the weekly household balance sheet is providing more restraint in terms of spending.
