    It's snow day for Cantabrians

Mt Hutt is the regions first ski field to open for the season.

A snow storm pushed out its original opening day by a week - while Cardrona and Coronet Peak in Queenstown welcomed its first skiers on Thursday.

The Canterbury ski field's opening comes as another Queenstown field, the Remarkables plans to have its fields ready today.

The Prime Minister is expected to make a trip down to the Remarkables this morning, to mark the start of the ski season.
