    56 year old Val Smith headlines the 10 strong New Zealand Bowls team for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games


    The current singles world champion spearheads the five strong women's team with current singles world champ Shannon McIlroy and fours world champ Ali Forsyth leading the men.

    Smith is heading to her fifth Commonwealth Games

    The Mainland Tactix have locked in their second big name signing in as many days with England Roses co-captain Laura Malcolm joining for next year's ANZ Premiership.

    The versatile midcourter has played 38 tests for England and won four UK Super League titles with the Manchester Thunder.

    Malcolm says she's always harboured ambitions to play franchise netball in New Zealand.

    Wellington swimmer Lewis Clareburt has qualified 7th fastest for the 200 metres individual medley final at the world championships in Budapest.

    Clareburt finished fourth in the 400 medley on Sunday.
