An Auckland charity helping high-needs young people is questioning Oranga Tamariki's decision to reduce its funding, as demand soars for its programmes

An Auckland charity helping high-needs young people is questioning Oranga Tamariki's decision to reduce its funding, as demand soars for its programmes

Howick-based Sowers Trust is also asking why it hasn't received any youth justice referrals in nearly a year, despite a spike in ram raids committed by young people in its catchment.

Business Manager Ameet Londhe wants to get kids involved in crime into their early intervention programme, before they become entwined in the criminal justice system.

He says Oranga Tamariki's cutting funding by a third, despite the growing need for their services.
