Northland school students are being targeted by a new campaign to raise attendance

Let's Get to School Tai Tokerau stresses school is an important and safe place.

It includes using social media posts featuring students and teachers.

Northland schools have some of the country's worst chronic absence rates.

Hora Hora Primary School Principal Pat Newman says students came up with the name of the programme.

He says it was in response to a question students ask their friends when they are not at school.
