The plane went down last week, and its wreckage has been located in the Southern Alps, near Mount Nicholson.
Today, a police-led operation to recover Franz Josef man Tim Gibb was initiated, but has been hampered by bad weather.
Police say a further attempt will be made once snow and ice conditions allow.
A Givealittle page has raised more than 52-thousand dollars for Gibb's family.
