Dunedin police are appealing for information after a fatal fleeing driver incident on Saturday morning

Police were called to reports of a burglary at a Hillside Road liquor store around 1.25am, and tried to stop a vehicle.

It crashed in Melbourne Street less than a minute later.

One of the five occupants - all in their twenties - died at the scene, while another is in hospital and three are in custody.

Police are seeking eyewitness accounts and video from around Macandrew Road, Kirkcaldy or Melbourne streets between 1.10 and 1.30am.
