New Zealand's newest grand slam tennis champion is relieved her time out of the sport was short lived

Erin Routliffe became the first Kiwi female in 44 years to win a Grand Slam in nailing the women's doubles at the US Open on Monday.

Montreal-based Routliffe took five months out of the sport in 2019 and considered giving up, as she was struggling to make a living.

Routliffe - as per tradition - will be back for Auckland's ASB Classic in January.
