    One person is dead and a homicide investigation is underway after an incident in Nelson last night


    Police were called to the scene of a 'serious incident' at Orchard St in Stoke shortly after 7pm.

    Detective Inspector Lex Bruning said a man with critical injuries was taken to hospital but he has since died.

    Those involved are believed to be known to each other.

    The area remains cordoned off with a scene examination underway.
