Christchurch residents are being warned of mounting pressure on the city's emergency healthcare services

Christchurch residents are being warned of mounting pressure on the city's emergency healthcare services

Te Whatu Ora says Christchurch Hospital's Emergency Department is experiencing high demand and is very busy, meaning some patients are experiencing extended wait times.

Meanwhile, the city's only 24-hour medical centre on Madras Street was at capacity and turning away patients by nine last night.

Acting Canterbury Group Director Operations, Lisa Blackler, says there's no single reason for demand.
