The Maori Development is making his intentions for Ihumatao clear -- houses will be built on the land

The Labour-Government bought the sacred site in South Auckland from Fletcher Building in 2020, to settle high-profile protests over its development.

It was agreed some homes would be built - but progress has largely stalled - with decision-making now left to a committee of Iwi and Crown representatives.

Minister Tama Potaka says the Government has inherited a very challenging situation.

He says he has a keen interest in the various ihumatao matters being resolved, not least of all new housing for whanau in need.
