Wellington Mayor Tory Whanau disagrees with the local Labour Party for its opposition to selling the council's airport shares

Wellington Mayor Tory Whanau disagrees with the local Labour Party for its opposition to selling the council's airport shares

Labour believes it's short-sighted to sell the asset -- with funds used to create a 'green investment fund' that would cover costs of a major disaster.

The council agreed to include selling its 34-percent stake in the airport during draft Long Term Plan deliberations.

Whanau says its important we make sure the city is financially prepared for future disasters in a world where there's more risk due to climate change.
