A batch of halloumi cheese is being recalled because of the possible presence of a bacteria which causes nausea, vomiting adn diarrhoea

The recall covers Zany Zeus Limited branded halloumi, with a best before date of April 8 this year.

New Zealand Food Safety says illness caused by the bacteria, Bacillus cereus, occurs one to six hours after eating contaminated food.

The cheese is being removed from shelves at stores nationwide.

The bacteria was found as a result of routine testing, with no instances of illness yet reported.
