A new study's shedding light around the wider-reaching impacts of alcohol-related harm

A new study's shedding light around the wider-reaching impacts of alcohol-related harm

Massey University research found the burden of disease from consumption on those other than the drinker was slightly greater than the impacts on drinkers themselves.

Lead Author, Professor Sally Casswell says it was based off the estimated number of healthy life years lost due to either disability or premature death.

She says those living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder saw the most adverse impacts.

Casswell says FASD made up about 90-percent of the calculation which looked into the harm alcohol has on others.
